Our OC Healthy Smiles dentists have put together a guide to help you look and feel your best on your Valentine’s Day date! These quick and easy steps will help you have the best oral health before, during, and after your date.
Before the Big Day:
When thinking of getting up close and personal with your loved one on Valentine’s Day, you want to ensure that you give the best impression. Here are some great tips to for last minute preparations.
Avoid Bad Breath
No one wants to go in for a Valentines Day smooch when your partner has bad breath. It is best to start off by thoroughly brushing your teeth and flossing. Flossing will help remove remaining bacteria and food particles out from between your teeth that could cause bad breath. Next, clean your tongue with a tongue scraper. Your tongue harbors bacteria which, if not properly cared for, can cause bad breath as well.
If you are unable to brush your teeth right before going out, prepare yourself and your date by chewing sugar-free gum. The sugar-free gum will freshen your breath and help remove bacteria from your mouth. Lastly, stay hydrated! Be sure to drink plenty of water before and during your date to prevent dry mouth and bad breath.
Wow your partner with your brilliant white smile. If you have 90 minutes, you have enough time to get your smile up to 8 shades whiter with in-office whitening. If you have 5-7 days before your date, then custom whitening trays can be used to whiten your smile at home at your own leisure. If you choose the latter option, be sure to purchase whitening solution syringes to use with your trays. This solution is available to be purchased at OC Healthy Smiles without a prescription.
A confident smile is one that is sure to lift the moods of everyone around you. Show off your healthy white smile at your date to exude confidence and show your partner that you are having a great time! Don’t ever let your smile hold you back. If you are not proud of your smile, it is best to speak with your dentist about ways to improve your smile and your confidence.
What to Bring on Your Date:
To assure your smile and breath are fresh for the remainder of your date, it is best to bring a couple of key items. Bring with you sugar-free gum for fresh breath after your meal. Pack floss to take care of stubborn food particles. Take a moment to head to a private room or restroom with a mirror to floss; no one wants to walk around with a piece of lettuce in their teeth all night! You should also bring chapstick to keep your lips moist and help your smile shine. Lastly, bring that winning smile!
For the healthiest smile on your date, schedule a preventative care appointment to see your dental hygienist.
